Elizabeth
Starr Sams grew up in Dimmitt, Texas (pop 5,000) where the cows
outnumbered the people. She spent her early days shooting hoops
in a pink tutu on rollers skates. One night after a drunken barn
dance Beth hooked herself, cape fear style, to the bottom of Willie
Nelson's tour bus and ended up in Austin, Texas.
She
enrolled at the University of Texas in 1989 where the self professed
"heavy metal hillbilly" majored in Middle Eastern Studies,
as well as served as the Hook 'Em mascot.
After
a visit to Israel, living in the West Bank town of Rumallah, studying
Arabic at the University
of Jordan and nearly getting sold into prostitution
in Syria, Beth returned to Texas and enrolled in Bill Lundberg's
drawing class and Steve Jones' 3D design class.
While
living in Austin and enjoying the underground music scene and running
around with a band of rowdy drag queens, Beth met Beau Been. They
were married in Cinque Terra, Vernazza,
Italy in 2004 and are currently living happily ever after.
Beth
owns a web/print design business called Groovee
Fortune, for which she was voted "Best Local Web
Designer" in 2005 by the Austin Chronicle. She skated as the
Scarlot
Harlot with the Texas
Rollergirls,
and one of her 15 minutes of fame came when she attacked
Dave Attel
on comedy Central's "Insomniac" as he shot an episode
in Austin.
Beth
loves to paint, do arts and crafts, make things out of bottle caps,
beads, glitter, red plaid, red stuff, black stuff, recycled stuff,
feathers, felt, pipe cleaners, and all things shiny that catch her
eye. When Beth grows up, she hopes to be Ozzy Osborne's bass player,
and there are rumors that she invented the Flaming Dr. Pepper. |
